Ink and watercolour on paper, 7×5 inches
Whenever I get interested in things, I tend to read about them, as per bibliophile protocol.
So last summer, I started looking at books that taught techniques, and on the very first page was a lesson on values, shapes, and… well, that’s it. What do you want from the first page? Goodness. It was general watercolouring 101 after all.
I drew the jugs, I painted the drawing, and then I stared at what I had made for several minutes. Didn’t like it. Left it, returned to it a few days later, still felt that it was missing something. It was missing a caption.
That’s when I realised that my style of drawing often includes a caption. How very liberating to realise that I had a style of drawing.
From one drawing to the next it is never quite the same, but what they do have in common is that my drawings are always just a little bit weird, and every time I draw them, I smile.
